SSK coordinators are playing a crucial role in helping vulnerable, at-risk communities to access their public welfare entitlements and improve the quality and circumstances of their lives.
Here is how Harpreet,SEWA Shakti Kendra coordinator from Sanour, Patiala, reached out to an elderly couple who were thrown out of their home by their own children during the COVID 19 lockdown. Theyhad no source of income and were finding it very difficult to make ends meet, especially given the circumstances during the lockdown. They tried for old age pension, but due to the incorrect age details mentioned on their Aadhar cards, they were not eligible for it. Harpreet ben reached out with a helping hand and took them to a dispensary where the doctor examined them and provided them with an age certificate. She then assisted them with all the information as well as in the process of applying for the pension, and thus was able to help them manage their essential expenditure.
