Taramati is a 51-year-old Sangini who lives in Ramdarbar in Chandigarh with her sons and daughters-in-law. She was working as a part time domestic worker for many years but would not get fair wages. Being more or less dependent on her children, she was leading an unfulfilled and suppressed life. She wanted to build her self-reliance and not feel like a burden on her family. It was during field mobilization for SEWA Sangini training in Ramdarbar that SEWA Punjab was able to reach out to her. She attended a counselling session followed by training at the Sangini centre. After her training, she was placed in the RBI crèche in Chandigarh. She is getting paid well and is happy with her work. With the emphasis given in Sangini training on rights and dignity of labour, she is now a confident Sangini worker who is able to assert herself with dignity and no longer faces self-doubt.
