Supporting Women Victims of Domestic Violence
During the lockdown, local women leaders (known as Master Trainers trained by SEWA Punjab) conducted door to door health awareness sessions with women of the community. During one such session in Patiala she-came across a woman who was a victim of domestic violence by her husband and her in-laws. The Master Trainer along with the SEWA Area In-charge immediately contacted the local “One Stop Centre” and the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). The CDPO personally called the woman’s family to the One Stop Centre. The police was also informed, and the family was warned of strict action if they did not stop the abuse. The support and the guidance the woman received through SEWA Punjab’s intervention gave her the strength to filea case for divorce and stand up for her own rights and safety as a woman. –
